Intramurals 2023 Journal !!

Intramurals was held in our school and the students were excited and delighted about it. As usual we were divided into teams, the Red Falcons, Green Dragon, Blue Phoenix, and Golden Lions. I'm from the gold team and I loved our jersey since it was comfortable and had a cute design.

The Intramurals were 3 days, April 19,20, & 22. During those days the SSG also sold food and drinks, such as hotdogs, fish ball, fries, and the best-selling mango juice!

On the First day, it was the opening and continuation of the preliminary games on the volleyball and basketball, and board games (chess & scrabble). Then parade was held on the Second day and the other games began too. The Third day was the Larong Pinoy which is Patintero, Labo-labo, and Bato-Lata.

Sports and games were intense to watch, the players did their best despite the heat. It was so fun watching 2 sports at once, basketball and volleyball. Both courts were on the same quadrangle so you can really get to see both games! That was so thrilling.

I joined 3 competitions, 50-Meter Sprint, Larong Pinoy (Bato Lata), and the Dance Palabas. Unfortunately, I didn't have photos of me playing the games that I joined (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)(;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)(;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)!!!!
But I did win 3rd place of the 50-Meter Sprint, it ended so quickly I was nervous... I literally almost tripped! This was my first time winning my own medal so far, it feels great:)

As for the Larong Pinoy, it was my first time playing bato lata. I was so confused the entire game, but somehow, we still won! 2nd place! We didn't really have that many pictures on the larong pinoy games since we were all busy watching the players play, it was a fascinating and intense game that it took all our attention.

Parade

During the parade, the muse and escort were gorgeous! The elementary students were also lively with their balloons and yells per team.  This is our muse and escort from the golden team :3

Family day 2023

Our school held the annual family day for this year 2023. The theme was about fiesta. Our booth did fit the theme perfectly with the help of the parents of the grade 10 students. The grade 10 had catering service, and their meals were delish!

I loved the dessert the most, I don't know what it was called but it was like pudding with mango and grahams!! They also served cordon blue, pancit, adobo, menudo, and more... I was not so sure about the names, but they were all indeed tasty.

I didn't get to capture pictures of the food since we instantly went in line and devoured our meal. But before the event started, we had a mass first, we were asked to stay by our booth and join the mass.

But that's not the point! Despite the name being family day, I went with my best friend since elementary, well because she was always my guardian on every family day we spent together ever since elementary. Though my parents have their reasons why they weren't able to come, after all in our family, every day is family day.

Unfortunately, we were only able to take 1 photo together... I just realized that when I arrived home because I was really enjoying our time together since the last time we saw each other was months ago. Here's the only photograph of us in our table while we were eating:

and disclaimer this was a rush photo so we were not really prepared (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)

You've probably notice I look so red! Well, that would be because we had our dance palabas, our dance was about the purge hence explains all the messy red paint on me. I was one of the prop makers and we had very little time left so I took the paint and poured it on my palms like lotion and made 'blood marks' on the shirts and masks of the dancers. It was worth it since we won 2nd place!!! The dance instructors were patient and great teachers, that I was even able to catch up.  (well I'm terrible at dancing).

that's me at the center:)
I'm also the one wearing black at the first part running away from the purge lady. I didn't hear the gun shot so i was confused when to act dead, i ended up running around in circles... But still overall it was a success.

After the serious stuff, I played around with my friends, we danced, sang, got free ice cream, cleaned up, and most of all made the most of our time... It was unfortunate we didn't get to take as much pictures, but I'll make sure to remember it in my memories.

This was the best family day I have ever experienced yet. I was so thankful I got the permission to go home by 8 and that my father told me to enjoy and have fun. And so, I did. (I arrived home by 9 hehe).

(But not to worry! Since I'm writing this journal as proof that I got home safe.)

MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY

     5 centavo Philippine coin.

An old superstition that many still do for fun or specifically, for luck. The idea that the lucky penny being picked up is connected to early beliefs about where the metal came from, as well as the thought that metal represents power and wealth. It usually brings good luck to the person who picks it up, and you are obliged to offer the penny to another person in order to share the good fortune.

I actually found this in school too.  I've found three lucky pennies already, but this one was my favorite because it's rare for me to encounter a 5-centavo coin (and also because it's extremely small). Well, I haven't given the coins I found to anyone yet, since I still need six more coins ^^

I used a photo editing app called "Epik" for the photo taken.

Epik has many uses and provides a lot of necessary features, so firstly I enhanced the photo since it was still quite blurry and had some visible tiny pixels.

(tools used encircled in red)
I lowered the brightness since it was too shiny, adjusted its contrast so that it won't be too sharp. As for the saturation, I actually decreased it, which is why it kind of looks like a black and white photo.

For the highlights and shadows, I also lessened them since it would be too bright and shiny, so I made sure to balance out the highlights and shadows.

The set up during taking the photo, the coin was on top of a tablet, as you can see it has some pattern or texture on the background which is actually the casing of the tab.

I wanted to keep the photo as simple as possible, so that it gives off a mysterious vibe from it.

I chose this because as stated,
"You are obliged to offer the penny to another person in order to share the good fortune."
Perhaps someone who sees this might receive a little luck.

JOURNAL "Just let everything fall into its place and go with the flow~"

(i recommend to play the music as background music while reading :)

Bansuri (inndian muscial instrument)

Bansuri

(bamboo flute popular in Indian subcontinent.)

A bansuri is a side blown flute originating from the Indian subcontinent. The instrument is also common among other traditions such as Shaivism

A bansuri is traditionally produced from a special type of bamboo, that naturally grows to long lengths between its nodes (knots). These grow abundantly in Himalayan foothills up to about 11,000 feet with high rainfall.

The harvested bamboo with a desired diameter is cut, dried and treated with natural oils and resins to strengthen it. Once ready, the artisans examine the smoothness and straightness and measure the dried hollow tube. They mark the exact positions for the holes, then use hot metal rod skewers of different diameters to burn in the holes. Drilling and other methods of hole making are avoided as it is believed they damage the fiber orientation and the splits affects the music quality.

The wall thickness of the bansuri determines the tone, range and octave tuning. Once all the holes have reached their performance range, the bansuri is steeped in natural oils, cleaned, dried and decorated or bound with silk or nylon threads.

There are two varieties of bansuri: transverse and fipple. The fipple flute is usually played in folk music and is held at the lips like a tin whistle. Because the transverse variety enables superior control, variations and embellishments, it is preferred in Indian classical music.

EAST ASIA ARTS AND CRAFTS

 CALLIGRAPHY

Before I begin I have here a little information about Japanese calligraphy or 'shodo' also called 'shūji' is a form of calligraphy, or artistic writing, of the Japanese language. The Chinese roots of Japanese calligraphy go back to the twenty-eighth century BC. In contemporary Japan, shodo is a popular class for elementary school and junior high school students. In high school, calligraphy is one of the choices among art subjects, along with music or painting.

Anyways, I decided to put a ocean wave background design for the calligraphy to pop and it wouldn't look so dull. I chose the quote 'Jigou jitoku' 自業自得 it means "what goes around comes around" or something like 'You get what you deserve'. I'll be showing a video of me doing the process.

I made a little mistake for the calligraphy part but I just covered it with pink paint as if it's a background colour for the calligraphy phrase.

 ORIGAMI

(Butterfly Ring Origami)

Origami or Paper folding is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. In modern usage, the word "origami" is used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. The small number of basic origami folds can be combined in a variety of ways to make intricate designs.

Anyways, I made a butterfly ring origami. It seems complicated but it's quite easy if you follow the correct way of folding it. Although i may not use this 'Butterfly Ring Origami' every day but it's kind of cute to be honest. I'll be providing a video me making it (kind of not a tutorial).

ANIME

Anime can refer either to animated works produced in Japan, or to their common visual style. It comes from the english word 'animation'. Characters are more slender and is stylized frim hairstyle, clothes, and even facial expressions.

Anyways, I made a manga version of myself. It doesn't really look like a manga like character though.. I'll be showing a video of me doing the process.

Koto (25 string) Instrument of Japan

Music of Japan is filled with tradition. The Koto (also called kin) is a Japanese plucked half-tube zither and the national instrument of Japan. There is four types of Koto (Gakuso, Chikuso, Zokuso, Tagenso) were all created by different subcultures, but also adapted to change the playing style. The ancestor of the Koto was the Chinese guzheng. It was first introduced to Japan from China in the 7th and 8th century. It came from the Chinese music traditions because it was the court music of china that influenced Japanese music.

The Koto instrument of Japan requires both of your hands, it is played by plucking the strings or alter the pitch or sound of each string by pressing or manipulating the strings. I will show you a video example of Koto, A person will be playing the instrument with a lovely spring background and will be playing it gracefully.                                          ⇩⇩⇩

or

I feel like I'm sitting under a Cherry blossom tree while its leaves waves through the sun. Watching the video brings peace to the mind and it calms you down.  For me i think it's a entertainment before as like to calm down people like for example from after the war, pregnant people, kids, etc. Listening/watching it makes me wanna learn the instrument.

ART PERFORMANCE BLOG

"LOI KRATHONG"

What is Loi Krathong? In Thailand, the festival is known as "Loi Krathong". The name could be translated as "to float a basket," and comes from the tradition of making Krathong or buoyant, decorated baskets, which are then floated on a river. Many Thais use the Krathong to thank the Goddess of Water.

So I decided to chose Loi Krathong the I decided to draw and color on a black color notebook to add a little twist. I sketched at first to not mess up the drawing. I have a drawing guide beside me. i showed my sketching in this video below  ⇩ ⇩

Loi Krathong [Sketch]

After sketching i took a little break, I then started to color. I used light/pastel colors so that it'll look lively on the notebook page. I spent about 2 hours making this . Video of me coloring it is shown below ⇩ ⇩

Loi Krathong [Finished output]

Although it doesn't really look the same and kind of messy, but for me i was satisfied and 'm proud of myself. I think the hardest part was the pink flower, as you can see it's smaller than the actual picture but still satisfied with the results. I really enjoyed it.
